Back from London and Spain, and Valentino Rossi
October 30, 2006 -- I'm back from a week in London, where Sophie and I had a great time. We visited friends and family, took in some of the sights (the British Museum is fantastic!) and relaxed. While there, I talked with Tom Bolt, who used to be the watch designer for Dunhill but has recently left that company. Word on the street is that Bolt will start his own watch brand. I'll keep in touch with him because he's a friend, but also to keep our readers updated on what he is doing. Bolt is a very talented watch designer who really knows timepieces, so what he does will certainly be worth "watching."
In the middle of my week in London, I went to Valencia, Spain to see MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi. Rossi is working with luxury watch brand Jaeger-LeCoultre and the first watch resulting from that collaboration, the Master Compressor Extreme World Chronograph '46', 246 pieces for the world, was introduced. It's a fantastic watch, a mixture of rose gold and titanium, with Rossi's #46 and his signature on the back. Rossi and Jaeger's president, Jerome Lambert, promised more Rossi-themed watches in the future. This current limited edition is already sold out, a testament to Rossi's popularity all over the world.
This week, I am riding to Rolle, Switzerland, to meet with Max Busser and Peter Speake-Marin, to talk about the latest watch from MB&F Watch Company.
My son Kalen was here for the past ten days and we had a great time. I organized an American football game while he was here and got quite a few people to play -- including Casey Bayandor from Europa Star, Gary Mack from Chatel, France, my next door neighbor Jerome and lots of players from Geneva. We are trying to set up a regular game every Saturday, I'll keep you posted. It was a great time, playing American football in Geneva, and it was even better to have my son here. I threw him a bunch of passes and he intercepted just about every ball the other side threw. He was a star and I will remember that evening forever, playing with him and my friends as the sun set over the Alps.
More later.
